A national service designed to help businesses get the training they need to succeed.

Did you know that 1.3 million people in England go to work every day without the appropriate skills to do their job and that skills gaps are estimated to cost businesses £10 billion a year in lost revenue. That's equivalent to £165,000 for a typical business with 50 employees!

To help both companies and employees get the training they need, the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) has launched Train to Gain, a new service aimed at helping businesses improve their productivity and competitiveness by ensuring that staff have the right skills to do the best job.

The LSC is responsible for planning and funding high quality education and training for everyone in England other than those in universities. Their vision is that by 2010, young people and adults in England have knowledge and skills matching the best in the world and are part of a truly competitive workforce.

What can Train to Gain offer my company?

Train to Gain can help you improve your business performance and raise the skills levels of your workforce through a core offer, including:

  • FREE and impartial advice and support from a skills broker to help you identify your organisation’s training needs.
  • The identification of eligible funding, including access to fully funded learning for employees’ ‘skills for life’ and their first full Level 2 qualification and for other provision that the employer will have to fund.
  • Sourcing suitable training provision which is high quality, flexible and relevant for both the employee and the organisation.
  • Information and advice on qualifications at Levels 3, 4 and beyond and other training, including signposting to other sources of information such as websites and helplines.
  • The offer of a contribution to wage costs to those employers with less than 50 employees (eligibility criteria apply).
